Thalia Lynn

I am an Archaeologist located in Northeast Florida. I will soon receive my M.S. in Zooarchaeology from the University of York and graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Environmental Studies.

I have a passion for Archaeology; to me, there is no greater privilege than uncovering the stories of the past. I am particularly drawn to osteology, and my dissertation focused on standardised butchery methods in Roman-occupied York, England. My data collection involved identifying boxes upon boxes of animal bones and designing unique diagnostic zone templates to record butchery marks.

During my undergrad, I had the chance to work with assemblages from two Indigenous North Florida sites and became fascinated with Timucuan pottery, pottery decoration methods, shell tools, and faunal material. Additionally, I conducted a quantitative analysis of published zooarchaeological data from pre-classical Greece, which taught me a great deal about the pitfalls of quantifying and analyzing animal remains.

My passion for zooarchaeology stems from a lifelong love of uncovering the past, which began with collecting fossils on Florida’s beaches as a child.
